Silver Lining Creation ry Finland (Silcreation) and MAG Nepal screened Shadows of the Street (2010) documentary on 6th of Augustin Kathmandu, Nepal. The program was held in Russian Cultural Centre, where there was a presence of about 200 people. The audience was comprised of the public and officials from different INGOs and NGOs such as American Himalayan Foundation, World Vision International, Save the Children Nepal, Sanga Sangai,Human Development and Community Services (HDCS) and Navjyoti Center. The event also involved media coverage from Himalayan TV, Republica, The Kathmandu Postand National TV.
The also included a drama based on the lives of street children in Nepal. The drama performance was not only entertaining, but also important for raising awareness and inspiring thought on street children-related issues. It described street children’s everyday life struggles and activities;explained reasons why children are compelled to live in street; and it also presented the changes revolved around their social inclusion into society. The event was entertained by a Nepalese cultural dance performance and atraditional music play, which were held by social work students of St. Xavier’sCollege.
Prakash Khanal – Silcreation’s representative in Nepal - announced the prospects of setting up a Silcreation South Asia headquarters in Nepal in near future, which therefore would further expand its activities and social cause globally.
The audience was found to be thankful for the documentary that dealt with such a sensitive issue in Nepali society. Furthermore, it was well-received for awareness raising purpose and inspired the proposal forsetting up a campaign motivated to support street children. In future, SilverLining Creation and Mag Nepal aim to release a social campaign called“Survivors of the Street,” which will focus on making a difference inchildren’s lives worldwide, who are dwelling in the street.
Numerous opportunities also came along with the venue. The Committeeof Miss Nepal requested the organizers to present the documentary and interview Miss Nepal participants during their contest. Moreover, Kadambari School of Social Work asked to screen the documentary on 4th of September in a national seminar dealing with the subject of child labour. Apart from that, we have received more supporters who are willing to contribute to our social campaign designed for street children.
