Silcreation executive board meeting held today has formally decided to launch an online development TV channel in the nearfuture. The channel will be named as Global South Development TV and will freely available to everyone. The board meeting also decided that the channel will be formally inaugurated on the 15th of October 2010.

Silcreation has been actively working on the development of user led social media initiatives since its establishment, and this move can be taken as a significant step towards contributing to the two top prioritiesof Silcreation- promotion of citizen journalism and active citizenship through activating user participation and modern means of mass communication. More importantly, thechannel has been expected to be a powerful means of sharing knowledge and disseminating developmental experiences within and outside the developing world. The development TV channel will feature development initiatives, documentaries, social films and programs basedon other social

environmental and developmental issues in general. 

The meeting also decided to respond to the natural disasters in Pakistan by facilitating fundraising through the use of modern means of mass communication and social networking sites as well as building short-term partnership with other aid agencies such as Red Cross.Silcreation’s coordinator for Humanitarian Assistance and Human Rights Promotion will be primarily responsible for the humanitarian assistance initiatives.

In addition, the meeting also decided to grant permission to Silcreation South Asia to operate as Silcreation’s official representativein the south Asian region.

Having assessed its organizational structure and legal stipulations in Finland, the executive board decided that people interested in Silcreation projects will be able to register themselves as Volunteers of Silcreation or Supporters of Silcreation, however, won’t be ableto apply for direct membership from outside Finland. Instead, they are encouraged to contact Silcreation’s partner organizations in their home country or to apply for establishing Silcreation’s branch in their locality.Nevertheless, everyone will be able to register themselves to Silcreation’s website and be an active supporter of the organization and its initiatives.
