20 April, 2013, HELSINKI, Global South Development Magazine's April 2013 issue has been published today. The magazine focuses on the issue of child soldiers, children at war and crises from across the globe. Feature stories from Colombia, Sri Lanka, the DRC and Mali have been presented. According to Human Rights Watch, in over twenty countries around the world, children are direct participants in war. Denied a childhood and often subjected to horrific violence, an estimated 200,000 to 300,000 children are serving as soldiers for both rebel groups and government forces in current armed conflicts.
Apart from the cover story, the magazine also features Diego Cupulo's photo essay on volunteering in Nicaragua, an article about Latinos in London and their struggle for existence and dignity, and also a field report that talks about a new model of education practiced in rural Nepal.
